I'm curious about the origins of the best chefs hat and I'm in right in thinking the chef hat is more than other leaders? Chef's hat, or toque blanche (French for "White Hat") was about more than 400 years. Already in the 16th century, artisans (including chefs) were among the "freethinkers" who were often persecuted, imprisoned or executed because of their views. To escape this treatment, some chefs hid in monasteries and wore the same clothes that the priests, including hats high.
