Betty Foster, originally a research scientist, became involved in dressmaking through her family's business. The business sold ready-made clothes, fabrics and haberdashery. Betty discovered that a research project had presented itself. Where did the"Standard Size Woman" live? Ready-Mades needed altering and the subject of Dressmaking seemed to be a total hit-and-miss exercise, with a level of failure that was seriously damaging the subject.
