Oil Analysis Lab - Bently Tribology Services | A Bently Family Company

Description

Lab Provides Advanced Techniques for Monitoring Critical Machinery

Setting a new approach for condition monitoring oil analysis isn’t new to the founders of Bently Tribology Services (BTS). In the 1970s and ‘80s they led the team, which developed and applied ferrography to military and industrial oil analysis. Since that time, they recognized that spectrometric oil analysis was blind to large particles, the very particles indicative of an abnormal wear situation. When Rotrode Filter Spectroscopy (RFS) was developed to detect those large particles, Bently Tribology Services was the first laboratory to apply the technique commercially in 1992. They combined RFS with traditional spectroscopy (for fine metals and oil additives) to provide an excellent screening approach for detecting wear particles, ferrous and non-ferrous, small and large. If severe wear is indicated by this double spectroscopy testing (called DOUBLECHECK SM ), then analytical ferrography (for ferrous wear) and/or Millipore™ Patch Testing (for nonferrous wear) are performed to aid root cause determination. Today this method is often specified by progressive customers and is gaining wide acceptance by many major laboratories.

In addition to this technology, BTS continues to innovate, employing the latest technology for oil analysis. There are two large well-equipped laboratories strategically located to serve our clients. One is in Peabody, Massachusetts, on Boston’s high-tech belt and the other is in Minden, Nevada, near Lake Tahoe (Go to the Contact/Visit Us Page for driving directions to both labs). By taking advantage of technology, BTS is able to test quickly, accurately and report results via a variety of media, especially electronic formats. Quick response combined with competitive pricing permits BTS to compete around the world for oil analysis services. International customers are in countries such as Chile, Ecuador, Holland, Singapore, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Bently Tribology’s services are aimed at industrial equipment typically found in the power utilities, petrochemicals, pharmaceutical, pulp/paper and metals processing industries. The BTS labs have considerable experience in monitoring turbines, compressors, hydraulic systems, gear systems and engines. They spend a lot of time getting to know a piece of equipment at the start of a program. This information is considered vital for determining the practical alarms and recommendations based upon the equipment characteristics. The BTS labs offer a variety of programs to suit customer needs.

  • There's certainly a bunch of information here about the site. This WikiPage seems a bit bland though. I wonder what people think about ways to punch up visual feel a bit. Maybe photos? Or just organization of the information into subtopics maybe? -- TakKendrick
  • I think this DomainPage would be much stronger with contact information. A message was also left today on the webmaster's talk page. Obed Suhail 01:10, 18 September 2007 (PDT)
