HOW TO GET HERE

(A) BY CAR

(1) From Rome : Exit Fiumicino Airport and get on the GRA (ring road) by simply driving straight, direction South or Naples/Reggio Calabria. After about twenty minutes (maybe less) you’ll come to the exit from the GRA for the Motorway to Naples/Reggio Calabria. Follow the off ramp onto the motorway, get a toll ticket at the next booth and drive for about 2.5 hours to Naples.

When you get close to Naples you’ll see some signs to the right for Naples itself, all of which you ignore. Get on the A3 (NA-SA) Naples/Salerno/Reggio Calabria motorway by driving straight. Do not take the Salerno/Bari motorway, which is the A30. You’ll know you’re on the right road when you come to a toll booth with about 20 lanes and you have to pay €1.40. (see (3) below)

(2) From Naples AIRPORT: Be careful with this part as it’s a bit tricky. Exit the Airport, drive straight until you come to a junction with a bridge in front of you. Follow the GREEN signs to the right for the Tangenziale. (The tangenziale is the road under that bridge but you have to go right to get to the entrance ramp). So, having turned right, go about 300 mts (do not take the first down ramp onto the tangenziale as it is the wrong direction) until you see a GREEN sign to the left for the tangenziale. Go round that bend and then straight for 200-300m until you see further signs for the tangenziale in the direction of the Autostrada or signs for the Autostrada itself, which you actually need, and finally the on ramp. Be careful with this part as it’s dangerous.

Then follow the road until it merges with the Rome/Naples/Reggio Calabria Autostrada. At one point, after a km or so, the road divides and you keep right as you have to take the Salerno/Reggio Calabria A3 Autostrada, not the Rome/Milan option. You’ll see signs for Naples itself, all of which you ignore. Get on the A3 (NA-SA) Naples/Salerno/Reggio Calabria motorway by driving straight and keeping left (ie don’t exit). You’ll know you’re on the right road when you come to a toll booth with about 30 lanes and you have to pay a toll.

(3) A3 NA-SA Take it easy, and after about 20-25 mins you take the exit on the right for Castelammare di Stabia. It is the first exit immediately after the Pompei exit. Be careful as there are road works there. You pass the toll booth on the right, as you don’t have to pay, and you keep left after the booths. Long straight road, also dangerous, which you follow until you come to an uphill section after 2km. Now you follow the road to the left, towards Sorrento and AGEROLA (hard to see this sign). Do not take the off ramp to Castelammare which is to the right. This road is elevated and after 2km becomes a very dangerous tunnel, so be very careful!!!!!! At the end of the tunnel you’ll see a sign to the right for Agerola, followed by a tight turn and a steep downhill stretch of about 50 mts. At the bottom you come to a T-junction where you turn right, go uphill for 300mts and take the first main road on the right (its at a horrible 4-way junction) . There is also a sign here for Agerola but you’ll be concentrating so hard on these bloody directions and the fruitcakes flying around you, that there’s very little chance you’ll see it!!. This is the road to Agerola. After about five mins the road forks and you keep right. Follow the road for about 20 mins. It’s very twisty and you’ll pass through a town on the way but eventually you’ll come to another tunnel. When you exit the tunnel you’ll have arrived in Agerola. Agerola is made up of five towns, and we live in San Lazzaro. To get here, having exited the tunnel, the road goes steeply downhill and finishes in a hair-pin curve to the left. Immediately after that curve there’s a sharp, left turn which you take. All of the roads from now on are very narrow. Follow the road for about 5 mins. You arrive at the road through San Lazzaro, which is a one-way system, so at the start of it you have to keep right. At one point you come to a T-juntion, where you keep right and after 200m you arrive in the Piazza. Directly behind you is the hostel, through an archway.

[[BY BUS]] ROME (DO NOT GO TO SALERNO FIRST BUT GO STRAIGHT TO NAPOLI WHERE YOU CAN GET A DIRECT BUS) Trains run from Fiumicino to Termini St. every half hour or so. From Rome, trains run every 20 mins or so. The direct is the slowest and most rare! If you take the inter city you have to buy the supplement at the same time you buy your ticket. They take 2:10 and 2:40 hrs respectively. You could take the Eurostar, which costs more and takes 1.5 hrs and is never late or subject to strikes. NAPOLI From the Airport there are buses to the Train station (Centrale) every few minutes. They leave from right outside the arrivals lounge. Get your ticket in the newsagents in the Airport. From Napoli you have a choice: Direct Bus : Mon-sat only!!! When you walk out of the Station there is an information kiosk in front of you which sells tickets (for Agerola, San Lazzaro). Then you leave the Piazza by turning left (to the left of the Termini hotel) and at the first traffic light (300mts), turn left. On the right of that road, after 50 mts there are bus stops. Take the bus that goes to Agerola, San Lazzaro. You’ll have to ask the driver. The timetable is 8,00 - 9,00 -10,40 - 11,40 -14:30, 16,15, 17:30 to us, but only 6:55, 8:55, 12:45 and 15:15 back to Napoli, the last one requiring a change of bus in Gragnano(I'll explain to anyone who wants to take it). The bus arrives in the Piazza of San Lazzaro and the hostel is behind you. Train and Bus : If you can’t take a direct bus, then you have to take the CircumVessuviana Train. Do not leave the train station. Follow the signs for the CircumVessuviana, get your ticket and go in the direction of Castellammare di Stabia. Your stop is the first one after Via Nocera. I think it’s just called Castellammare di Stabia. You’ll find yourself in a small piazza, where you need to buy a ticket, either in the station itself or just outside, for Agerola, San Lazzaro. The bus arrives in the Piazza of San Lazzaro and the hostel is behind you. The timetable is 7 ,00- 7.30 - 10,00 - 11,35 - 13,30 - , 14:30, 16:55 - 18,25 - , 19,40 - and the last bus is at 20,40

Before relying on this timetable you should ring to confirm it.
