Description

BayLUG History

This site went online in March of 1999, but the ideas for the group surfaced at a get-together of rec.toys.lego and LUGNET participants during the LEGO Truck Tour visit to San Francisco during the fall of 1998. We met about 3-4 times per year from 1999-2001, and have been increasing steadily in membership, exposure, and meeting frequency since then. Check out Tom Stangl's Pictures of the Truck Tour event.

In the spring of 2002 we got a big boost in activity due to articles being published in the San Jose Mercury News and the Fremont Argus, with those articles being reprinted in about eight other local newspapers, including the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat. There are copies of all BayLUG newspaper appearances available for browsing at the meetings.

Although our public meetings are held at the Museum of American Heritage in Palo Alto, we sometimes have smaller members-only meetings in alternative meeting places, such as a pizza parlor or a member's home. We are also always open to new ideas for events and meeting locations, especially since our members are scattered all over the bay area and may have a long way to drive to our regular meetings. If you have an idea or want to host an event, post a message about it on the mailing list, and let the BayLUG webmasters know if you do (or don't) want info about the meeting posted to our web page.
