Visit Melbourne's ghff colony at Yarra Bend Reserve(melways map ref. 2DK6) in Kew.The bats eat nectar, pollen and fruit. They have excellent night vision but no sonar. They are key pollinators of native trees and have declined by over 95%. The bats `commute` between Nth NSW and Victoria year round with the Melbourne colony reaching 20,000 in summer and dropping to 3000 in winter. The colony is small by traditional standards.
