About Us

The Basenji Club of America (BCOA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the Basenji breed, and is a member of the The American Kennel Club. We have over 500 members across the US and in several other countries. Members consist of basenji fanciers, owners, and breeders.

The US Basenji Basenji Standard, which is a written description of the breed, is the official and only such document of reference for this club.

BCOA is involved with preserving the physical qualities of the Basenji. In addition to being fun, conformation dog shows are where dogs are judged against the standard and are how breeders gage the effectiveness of their breeding programs. BCOA holds an annual specialty (Basenji only) dog show and encourages the holding of regional shows by it's 20 affiliate clubs. In addition, BCOA holds Obedience trials, Lure coursing trials, and sanctioned conformation matches. (The AKC sanctioned events Basenjis may participate in are conformation, obedience, lure coursing, and tracking tests).
