Balloon Utopia opened in San Diego in 2000. Prior to that head designer Sandi traveled throughout Asia making balloons, spending several years in Japan and Israel. This international training gave Balloon Utopia a unique perspective. Balloon Utopia’s artists are often instructors at international balloon conventions and have several videos out for the Balloon Industry. Balloon Utopia takes pride in changing the way that San Diego looks at balloons. Balloon Utopia is a San Diego based balloon decor and entertainment company specializing in unique balloon displays. Balloon Utopia's artists are experts in going beyond the balloon to give clients and guests alike an experience unlike any other. A successful event for Balloon Utopia is one where people can be heard saying "I didn't know you could do that with balloons" or "I've never seen balloons like that before" or "How did you do that?".
Artist Sandi's favorite story is about decorating an event for ISES (International Special Event Society) and standing next to one of the sculptures while she introduced herself to some of the most prominent special event producers in San Diego. "I'm Sandi, I did the balloons here" she said. "What balloons? I don't see any balloons..." was the comment most often heard. To this she would tilt her hand towards the giant martini glass to her right, next to the "rockwall" columns, (click to see martini photo) and watch with satisfaction as their mouths dropped open as they realized the sculpture was made from balloons.
On the entertainment side, Balloon Utopia does every kind of event from small birthday parties to huge corporate events and trade shows. They especially like trade shows. It's very satisfying to see that people will wait sometimes more than 2 hours in line to get one of their special creations- (thereby building a captive audience for the booth to pitch.)
Balloon Utopia's mission, besides providing a great customer experience, is to take balloons out of the "only for kids" perception that seems to follow the industry. As an artistic medium, there is so much more that can be done with balloons than most people realize.
