British Association for Central and Eastern Europe
The British Association for Central and Eastern Europe (BACEE) exists to promote a closer understanding between the British people and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and beyond and to support them in developing democratic systems and civil society.
Throughout its 38 years' existence, BACEE has continually adapted to changing political circumstances in Europe - to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the dissolution of the Soviet state and the collapse of communist regimes, the break-up of Yugoslavia into successor states - and found a new role for itself.
With the accession of eight of its partner countries to the European Union in 2004, and the prospect of further enlargement still to come, BACEE is finding new work beyond its traditional boundaries. So, while we still work with Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia & Montenegro, Slovakia and Slovenia, we are now looking further east, to Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, and south, to Turkey - to the countries seeking integration into the wider European family.
