I became a midwife for very personal reasons. After the disappointment of my first birth I educated myself about why birth was the way it was in the hospital and felted convicted to find another way. I used midwives the next time I had a baby. The difference in the care and joy I had experienced around my next birth was amazing! Thirteen months after being sectioned with my first baby because my pelvis was" too small" I gave birth to a baby (1lb bigger) with no problem. My forth baby weighed over nine pounds born vaginally with no episiotomy. Women give birth. We are designed to do this. It is our birth right. It has become my life's work to help support to birth naturally in their own home with the people that they love.
I believe that childbirth is a profound rite of passage, not a medical, surgical event (even when medical care is a part of the birth). I as a midwife seek always to honor the woman and her partner above all in this process.
