Babies by the Bay was created by two San Francisco Bay Area moms, Michelle Keene and Stephanie Lamarre, to educate and inform parents and parents-to-be in the San Francisco Bay Area.
As we struggled to adapt to life after our first babies were born, we searched and searched in vain for a local baby guide. The Yellow Pages were no help -- either they did not list the necessary resources, or we had no way of knowing which places were any good. More importantly, as new parents we just did not have time to drive in circles around the Bay Area to investigate -- and who wants to take a chance on something as important as a baby? We quickly realized that we needed a guide to parenthood in the Bay Area, found there was none . . . and the idea for this book was born.
We wanted this book to be a true insider's guide, filled with parents' opinions. So before we sat down to write, we surveyed local parents in all six Bay Area counties about topics ranging from favorite doctors to favorite parks to favorite shopping haunts. We received hundreds of enthusiastic responses, including frank opinions on everything from pregnancy through preschool. These parents’ opinions, and our own, formed the basis for the ratings and quotes you’ll see in this book.
