About AZBS
The Arizona Zen Buddhist Society was founded by Yin De (Randy Nowell) in August of 2003 as a non-profit religious corporation to share the Dharma both electronically, over the internet, and as the corporation under which to operate a local Sangha in Phoenix Arizona. The Sangha offers Zen Buddhist Meditation instruction, regular group sittings, precepts and refuge (Buddhist Baptism), Wedding Ceremonies, and other services as needed by the local Buddhist community.
Yin De was ordained in 2001. He is a seventy-second generation disciple of Bodhidharma ( d. 530), the First patriarch of Ch'an, and a sixty-seventh generation disciple of Hui-Neng (638-713), the Sixth Patriarch. Within the Lin Ji lineage, Yin De is a sixty-second generation disciple of Master Lin Ji (Rinzai) (d. 866), and a third generation disciple of Master Hsu-Yun (1840-1959). He has been authorized to teach the Dharma in this lineage.
Since the first meeting on Tuesday, November 18th 2003 the AZBS Sangha has met at the West Valley Unitarian Universalist Church located on the North West corner of 59th Avenue and Cholla in Glendale Arizona. We have our regular Sangha gatherings every Tuesday evening with the following schedule:
