Description
The American Women's Auxiliary (AWA) was founded in 1931 with the primary objective of providing fundraising and volunteer services to the Royal Children's Hospital of Melbourne. The AWA is also a social group, gathering in members' houses or at venues around the metro Melbourne area for fun and friendship.
Our membership is made up of women who are American citizens or who are the spouse/de facto partner of American citizens and women of other nationalities living in Melbourne who are friends of Americans.
Each year the AWA Board confers with the RCH Auxiliary Office to determine the RCH's most urgent needs, usually a piece of medical equipment. The Board discusses the merits of each proposal and then decides and votes on what will be the goal for the year. The entire AWA proceeds to raise funds towards this goal. Since 1931, the AWA has raised over $4 million to provide much needed equipment to the RCH. The equipment has, without a doubt, saved young lives and assisted many children towards recovery.
