Liz Copeland is the ten-year host of Alternate Take/The Liz Copeland Program on public radio in Detroit WDET-FM 101.9, Monday through Friday nights (Tuesday through Saturday mornings) between the hours of midnight and 5 am. During her tenure, she has been recognized for her dedication with annual ‘Best Overnight DJ’ awards from Metro Times and ‘Best DJ’ awards from motormouth.org and Real Detroit Weekly.
Along with being featured in several Detroit-area publications, Liz has been acknowledged for creating atmospheres on-location with a nomination for ‘Best Club DJ’ by detroit.citysearch.com. She has held Detroit-area residencies at Lush, Motor and Buddha Lounge, in addition to DJing for select occasions. Some events have included A Night of Sound (which included a Carl Craig performance utilizing the sound sculptures of Harry Bertoia at the Cranbrook Art Museum), starting things out for St Germain at St. Andrew's Hall and setting the mood for the Michigan Modernism Expo Gala Preview, The Design Show Black Tie Preview at the Detroit Artists Market, BravoBravo! at the Detroit Opera House and the Day of Music at The Max.
Liz has also branched out into other art forums. She was recently a board member of the recently resuscitated Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit, a Detroit-based organization with a mission to explore the definition of art. Liz is also co-curator of the sound exhibition Sacred & Profane: A Collection of Sonic Art.
