Description

ART INDIA is committed to the promotion of excellence and genuine quality in the arts. We believe that art is an enriching and civilizing factor in life and essential to the physical, mental and spiritual well being of the world. Art at its highest is at once a celebration of life and a homage to the Creator of its beauties. It is the distilled experience of humankind.

Founded in February 1989 by G.S. Rajan and Anjana Rajan, both alumni of Kalakshetra, Madras, and Ashutosh Sundriyal, Art India was established in New Delhi in 1989 with the aim of putting into practice their beliefs concerning the arts. Art India’s aim was – then as now – to offer, on the one hand, programmes of genuine quality to audiences, and, on the other, to true artists, a forum where their talents could be exhibited most effectively – through proper organisation and aesthetic presentation.

Art India began its activities with a formal inauguration by the eminent scholar, musician and arts administrator Dr. V.K. Narayana Menon, then Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. The inaugural speech was followed by a Carnatic flute recital by Guruvayoor S. Srikrsihnan, accompanied by V.V. Ravi on the violin and T.V. Gopalakrishnan on the Mridangam. The Advisory Committee to Art India was formed with eminent persons from the field of art and culture. These included Dr. V.K. Narayana Menon, K. Sankara Menon, K. Srinivasulu, T.V. Gopalakrishnan, Shantha and V.P. Dhananjayan, P.J. Vincent and Lalit Mohan Thapalyal.
