- David Adkins, President of ALS, has enjoyed the aquarium hobby for most of his life. He can recall one of his first freshwater setups that contained a mated pair of angelfish, it was the "in thing" back then.
- In 1988, as a member of the Cleveland Saltwater Enthusiasts Association (CSEA), David assisted in the development of the Marine Aquarium Conference of North America, or MACNA.
- Soon after, the Marine Aquarium Societies Of North America, or MASNA, was formed to co-ordinate MACNA functions and David served as a MASNA delegate to inform members of C-SEA at their monthly meetings as to the discussions that had taken place after each BOD meeting.
