Additional Information

[a]narchy is a new addition to hair design and extensions, opening in Harajuku, Tokyo in the summer of 2005. It was founded by Okinawa-born hairdresser, Kazu (formerly of Pepi's, London UK) and Kaytea, a well-known Pepi's supporter and client, and musician-turned-hair creator. While Pepi's had a Harajuku branch in the late 1990's, owner Begona returned to London in 2001, leaving Tokyo in the midst of Japanese street fashion's cyber boom with very old-fashioned Japanese techniques being used at very high prices in her absence.

Upon their return to Japan, [a]narchy's various collaborations with famous artists such as world-famous DJ Yoji Biomehanika and up-and-coming visual kei band LM.c, the privately-owned business became an instant cult success, attracting clients from all over Japan and the rest of the world. DJ and performer SiSeN's internet fame has been a large influence in [a]narchy's success, as has the club event Tokyo Decadance. Using materials such as plastic tubing and bubblewrap to stand apart from the vast expanse of hairdressers cluttering Harajuku, Kazu and Kaytea have worked with many DJs, performers, and underground Japanese artists, setting a new standard in wig- and hairpiece-making. Despite the surprisingly-stiff views Japanese working society regularly expresses, even members of the Japanese Air Force have become loyal clients, bringing cyber, punk, and hard-edge styles back into the spotlight.

[a]narchy is located near Harajuku's famous Takeshita Doori, and is currently collaborating with the popular Harajuku-located brand Takuya Angel.
