Established in 1990 as an importer of Italian dance music Amato was one of the first companies to realise the potential in the then fledgling dance industry. The insperation for Amato came from the company's MD, Mario Howell, who spent his summers DJ-ing in Ibiza and Italy. By importing the hottest hard-to-come-by 12” singles, which were then sold to retail via the boot of Mario’s car, Amato quickly gained the reputation of being a supplier of upfront, quality underground dance music. In 1991 Amato took on its first full time employee and had grown sufficiently to justify renting a small office in Paddington, London. During 1992 and 1993 Mario’s belief in dance music’s power to revolutionize the music industry was realized and the dance scene exploded. Despite increased competition Amato continued to be the leader in its field.

As the dance market continued to grow Amato played an ever important role working with some of the scene's biggest names and labels a trend that continues to this day.

Amato now operates from a purpose built office and warehouse site in London’s Park Royal with a 40+ workforce. The diversity of music is ever expanding covering most dance genres and all musical formats.
