The game setting is reminiscent of Dungeons and Dragons, but has elements of fantasy and a custom spell and skill system. The game world is huge, with hundreds of areas to explore, quests to complete, and puzzles to solve. As a multiplayer game, there are always other players available, whether for help, competition, or just to talk with. The game is also blind-friendly for the visually impaired.
Alter Aeon could be considered a 'first generation' MMO, as it was created before graphical MMOs became popular. Recent updates have added graphical support and greatly increased the size of the game world.
