Joe Piemeisel and Chloe Madison Parfitt have been close friends since 2005 when they met through a mutual friend they individually met on myspace. Several years later, the two began working on film and graphics projects together and eventually started working side-by-side as freelancers in the digital media field. Near the end of 2013 Joe wanted a way show his support for Chloe who is transgender and recently had gone through the social transition from male to female. Chloe had been working closely with leaders and non-profit organizations in the transgender community to improve design standards that she felt were well behind the straight, cis-gendered population. Joe understood her sentiment and explained his idea of allies not having a well designed, accessible way to show their support for the LGBT people they care about. His idea to fill that void was the #myblankisblank shirt and a website that would allow simple ordering of the single product with nearly endless combinations. Chloe was awestruck by the simplicity and beauty in the idea, and they immediately got to work using their skills to create a working prototype website within two weeks. Over the following few weeks, they refined their ideas and launched the site in March 2014.
