Alicia Dickerson grew up in a family of artists. Her mother was a professional watercolorist, her dad a painter and sculptor. At the age of 16, she entered her first professional photography contest and won best in show. In college, she focused on her fascination with nature, animals and people, receiving a bachelors degree in both Environmental Studies and Anthropology. After college, she studied howler monkeys and taught children about nature at outdoor schools. Throughout, she photographed everything. In 2001, she purchased her first digital camera and became further enamored with the possibilities of photography. She decided to pursue photography as a career and received her training from the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Montana. Her work reflects her background and sensitivity to both people and nature. In additional to her portrait and wedding work, Alicia is awaiting the 2007 publication of a book by the National Gardening Association. Her photographs in the book document children in educational school gardens. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her 17-year old dog, Tad.
