- The Alientrap development team was started by Lee Vermeulen with the development of the Nexuiz game project in the summer of 2002. Forest "LordHavoc" Hale later joined the project as lead programmer and co designer. The purpose of the Nexuiz project was to make a small fun deathmatch game to give the team experience in game design, and then move on to more ambitous projects. As time went by, the Nexuiz project became very ambitous and became a much larger project. By the end of development Nexuiz had as much content and quality as most released games at it's time, a first for a internet project of its type. Another first was the fact that Nexuiz was released under completely open sourced and GPL, General Public License, meaning anyone could use its content for their own projects.
