- I grew up on the Mad River in Northern California in the 1960's a small town named Blue Lake. My Dads work took us up into Oregon in 1965 to Medford , where I grew up Salmon Fishing on the upper Rogue River. I worked nights in High School at a plywood mill to get my first boat and truck, and worked with some of the greatest fishermen of the time, they took me under their wing and taught me the art of bouncing bait, this was a new thing then and yes I had to row the drift boat, many thanks to Merl Lee, Mel Morgan, Duane and his Dad Bill Phaff, and my long time school bud George E. Scott (Whip) who really hooked me on plug fishing. That's were I met Willie from Alumaweld Boats, now Willie Boats, Willie took me under his wing on more than one occasion and showed me the in and out's of rowing that special drift boat, needless to say its been a runaway ever since.
