- The American International School of Abuja was founded by the United States Embassy in 1993, when a group of concerned parents and Embassy officials recognized the need for a school that would adequately prepare students who reside in Nigeria to continue their education in American schools overseas.
- The local authority FCDA (Federal Capital Development Authority) awarded permission to open and operate an elementary and middle school in Abuja, which is the capital of Nigeria. The compound was designated as a temporary site and at present the school is still located on that site.
- AISA’s building project is well underway with a targeted completion date of August 2006.
