Ahamu is a result of the work by few Sri Lankans from various parts of the world to bring a Sinhalese radio station on internet. Idea about Ahamu was with us for over four years, we have spent hundreds of hours trying to find a way to bring ahmu.com to live. During this exercise we had various levels of success. This time we are determined to do it, and do it the right way.
Ahamu is a Sinhala Music radio station. We are playing Sinhalese songs and most of the times the songs that you don’t get to listen these days. We want the Ahamu to be the background music for your life. We are not planning to have DJs speaking 23 hours a day or news breaks every 10 minutes. While we are planning to accommodate those up to some extent, our focus will remain mainly on continuous music. From the responses we get from you; we understand that we are doing something right. Except for few issues which are being discussed in the FAQ section, our song collection has been embraced by people all around the world.
We could initially anticipate the kind of audience which would be attached to Ahamu, but we had little knowledge in what they would expect to listen. After rounds of heated arguments we made a decision to follow our heart. That is to play the music we like most. What we have learnt is that most of us share the same taste. Now our music selection policy is, if we like any song we will play it on Ahamu. That seems to work well with our audience. So we will stick to that until we find something better. While we listen to suggestions of our audience, we always try to listen to our heart for the last decision.
