When Anna Price discovered dichroic glass, it was love at first sight. A stained glass artist for more than 20 years, Anna found that her passion for working with stained glass art led naturally to dichroic glass art.
"I could create something much faster than stained glass art -- it took days instead of weeks," she says.
Anna has worked exclusively with dichroic glass for the past eight years. She designs and creates one piece of dichroic glass jewelry at a time, so each is beautiful and unique. She delights in learning more about every aspect of her craft, from the dichroic glass itself to the metals and beads that set it off.
Aesthetic Designs has been running profitably for eight years.
"The studio is debt free," Anna says. "That means I can focus on making art I truly love."
Anna's been courted by larger companies that want to replicate her dichroic glass jewelry in high volume in China, India and other low-cost countries.
But Anna loves every minute that goes into the craftsmanship of her unique glass jewelry, and doesn't want it mass produced.
"I focus on each piece as I make it," she says. "I start with the raw glass, choose the colors, then cut, design, construct, fuse, anneal, grind, fire polish, anneal again....and if it's good, I sign it."
Dichroic glass: A blend of science and art
Dichroic glass is made by fusing together many thin layers of different metal oxides, yielding unique multicolored pieces of glass that have depths and change color when viewed from different angles.
Anna produces her dichroic glass jewelry by fusing multiple layers of stained art glass and dichroic glass.
