Its client base consists of several segments and industries like financial segment, brokerage firms, automobile, real estate, claim and insurance and other sectors. It provides its services online also. It is so large that it is involved in payment of 1in 6 private sector worker. Its business is spread over 26 countries in the world. It works for two different clients. One is the employer and the other is the dealer. The employer segment is offered services like payroll, benefit administration, human resource, attendance management, tax management etc. Dealer service offers data processing, transaction processing etc.
The clients for employer services are present in North America, Australia, Europe, Brazil, Asia etc. Dealer services clients are automobile, manufacturer dealers and other dealers for various industries.
History
ADP was started by a young account from NYU, Henry Taub in 1949. The initial name was Automatic Payrolls Inc. It was a manual payroll processing service in northern New Jersey. It started it business with just one client and the first year revenue of $2000. In 1961 it became a public company. Next year it set up a brokerage services division to serve the stock brokers on Wall Street who had huge transaction needs. In the next year it started dealer services for the automobile dealers and offered inventory management and accounting services to them. In 1974, set off on its journey to conquer the world by starting an office in the Netherlands
Slowly clients started flowing in. It started providing various services and solutions, which bought more and more customers. It slowly diversified into more related things and operations.
In 2007 ADP started Broadridge Financial Solution to provide communication to investors and securities transaction processing service.
Financials
In fiscal 2006, ADP revenue was $8.8 billion and net income was $1.5 billion. HR services is the highest profit earning segment for ADP. In 2006 it earned ADP $88.7 billion. The segment is to grow more in coming years which is good news for ADP. In other processing markets ADP is a dominant player which will bring it more revenue. Again the projection of the market growth of the services offered by ADP is positive and of good rates. This will ensure more cash coming to ADP in the future
