Advertising Revenue
back to OurWork
Description
The ability to control when, where, and which advertisements show up for which users. Furthermore, the ability to monitor which users click on the ads, and whether they come back to our site after clicking on the ads or not.
Why?
The Revenue from advertisements is one of the drivers of our business model. Understanding the impact of advertisement presentation on revenue and site adoption is a core competency that we must develop.
Done When
- AdSense for Search
- Advertisements no longer show up for our registered users unless they have explicitly indicated that they want them to.
- We have the ability to display different advertisements to different visitors and measure the effect of changing the ads and/or the presentation of them.
- Advertisements (different provider's and formats) can be easily created and disabled by sysops
- New advertisments are automatically added to the rotation and logging
- Disabled advertisments are automatically removed from the rotation and logging
- Visitors can be tagged according to particular criteria (e.g., anonymous first time visitor, anonymous repeat visitor, coming from google, registered user, confirmed email user, active member)
- We have logs that allow us to easily answer the following questions:
- How many pages does a visitor hit on AboutUs if they aren't shown any adverts?
- How many pages does a visitor hit when they are shown different combinations of adverts?
- How likely is a visitor to return to AboutUs if they exit through an advert versus if they exit through an external link within a page?
- Which adverts generate the most clicks?
- Which adverts generate the most revenue?
