AdLand Adland.tv formerly ad-rag commercial archive :: by the adgrunts for the adgrunts advertising blog commercial archive
Description
AdLand is an advertising rag site, made by the adgrunts who populate it. It's what is known as a blog,(see a short history of weblogs) which started life as a website in 1996 and turned into a blog in 2000. It's the brainchild of Dabitch who also codes, designs and writes for the site as well as administers the servers it runs on. It's a community-blog since any signed in adgrunt (that's member in AdLand speak) can brave it and post to the front page.
The front page news is generated by the founder Dabitch, and the core crew amigo adgrunts Claymore, Caffienegoddess and Robblink. The ad news can be adrants, ad agencies leaked internal memo's, silly ad jokes and reviews of new campaigns or interviews with those who created it. Every day members and the crew post new commercials to the website's Commercial Archive, which now has over 36,000 Quicktime commercials and a 35 year strong super bowl commercial collection.
How did AdLand begin? Dabitch has said "Well, after surfing the web in 95, and finding zeldman's ad graveyard I got inspired. AdLand was built, and the first Badland ads ended up in the shame corner on my wee non interactive (it had a basic guestbook) webpage where I ranted and raved, and I got a lot of email from other adgrunts around the planet. This is why AdLand had to be rebuilt into a web community modelled on Slashdot at the time, to allow everyone in the community to show their work and share their opinions. There simply wasn't a place like that around at the time. AdLand is quite possibly the grandpappy of all advertising blogs."
