Atlantic Beach Fire Department was formed in 1957 as an all-volunteer force. Using a surplus truck and a barn as a station they provided the only fire protection for all of Bogue Banks. As towns were formed and communities established our district decreased in size, but as with all of Bogue Banks the population has increased . Today the population is approximately 2500 and seasonal population increases from 20,000 to 40,000+.
