Additional Information

A popular food writer, instructor and media personality, Abby continues to forge a path for those who believe they are just too busy to spend time baking. What began as a love for baking at a young age, has developed into a full and passionate career for Abby Dodge. Understanding the time constraints and active lifestyles of the new Millennium, Abby’s stress-free strategies and simple techniques for busy people, have garnered her awards, wonderful critical reviews, and perhaps most importantly, a following of “weekend bakers” empowered by her casual, friendly approach.

Abigail Johnson Dodge began baking as a young girl with her mother at home in Brooklyn, New York and Southport, Connecticut. After college, she studied in Paris at La Varenne and later worked under celebrated chefs Michel Guerard and Guy Savoy, specializing in pastry. She held editorial posts at Parents and Woman’s Day magazines, and began work on a variety of projects, all centered around the pleasures of baking.

Currently a contributing editor at Fine Cooking, Abby founded the magazine’s test kitchen, where her baking techniques, and conversations with readers, quickly gained her a loyal following. The author of five popular cookbooks, Abby’s most recent publication, The Weekend Baker, (W.W. Norton, 2005) has the honor of being named one of the “Top Ten Cookbooks of the Year” by Food and Wine Magazine as well as an IACP Cookbook Finalist. Her other books, Kids Baking, (Oxmoor House, 2003), Williams-Sonoma Dessert (Simon and Shuster, 2002) now in its second printing, The Kid’s Cookbook (Oxmoor House, 2000) and Great Fruit Desserts (1997), have received critical acclaim. She was also a contributor to The New Joy of Cooking (Scribner, 1997) Cookies for Christmas (Meredith, 1999) and Savoring America (Oxmoor House, 2002) which was nominated for a James Beard Award and received the prestigious Ben Franklin Award.
