Additional Information

The Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP) is a non-profit membership association comprised of highly qualified and committed experts in reproductive health. Its members are professionals who provide reproductive health services and education, conduct reproductive health research, and influence reproductive health policy, and they include physicians, advanced practice clinicians (nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and physician assistants), researchers, educators, pharmacists, and other professionals in reproductive health. The organization reaches this broad range of health care professionals both in the US and abroad with education and information about reproductive health science, practice, and policy.

Founded by Alan Guttmacher in 1963 as the physician education arm of Planned Parenthood® Federation of America (PPFA), ARHP became independent in 1972, international in 1975, multidisciplinary in 1981, and began offering professional accreditation in 1988. ARHP was the first medical organization to offer continuing medical education (CME) credits on-line in 1993 and has sponsored a broad variety of science-based patient and public education programs, and advocacy initiatives. ARHP activities include the development and implementation of clinical conferences, visiting faculty programs, monographs, an international peer-reviewed journal, Contraception, and on-line education. ARHP-sponsored programs and conferences feature the latest research, emerging technologies, hands-on training, and useful information for health care practice.

ARHP’s multidisciplinary and international membership, strong strategic partnerships, broad educational focus, and its four decades of experience are its strengths. The organization’s expert members serve as its functional heart and intellectual core, representing NGOs, government agencies, advocacy groups, academic institutions, and other professional organizations in the US and abroad. Members and staff are committed to keeping patients informed about reproductive options, to supporting the science that informs the advocacy community and to bringing together reproductive health community partners on timely issues.
