Description

The homepage of the 28th New York State Volunteers, Company E. An American Civil War reenactment group.

Additional Information

The 28th New York State Volunteers was formed in May 1861 at the start of the American Civil War in response to the request for volunteer regiments to form following the secession of the southern United States from the Union.

The regiment served for the first two years of the war and was involved in several of the early battles in the Eastern Theatre of the war, including, Cedar Mountain, Antietam and Chancellorsville.

The 28th New York experienced it's fair share of battles and suffered over 50% losses on two occasions, first at Cedar Mountain and then again at Chancellorsville.

This website is the home page of a reenactment group which participates in Living History events, Parades and Battle Events around the Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and Finger Lakes regions of up-state New York.

While at events, we portray a living replica of 19th century life to remind people what our ancestors experienced during the 1861 to 1865, American Civil War, on both the battle line and the home front away from the fighting.
