200KFreelancer.com is a community for freelancers who need to make a living

Elizabeth MacBride and Elaine Pofeldt started $200K Freelancer [[1]] in 2011 to help ambitious professionals make the most out of the big opportunity in today’s economy: working for yourself.

As seasoned journalists who have made the transition from corporate jobs to self employment, we know that there's a steep learning curve in building a freelance business-especially if you need to generate enough income to pay the bills in a metro area with a high cost of living. We both wished there was a site like $200K Freelancer to help us when we were starting out, and so we decided to launch this one ourselves.

Only a select number of people regularly make $200K a year by freelancing, and not everyone needs to earn that much. However, we believe that it is important for freelancers to set an income goal that will allow them to stay well ahead of their bills, so they are able to build a sustainable business. We picked the name $200K Freelancer to inspire our readers--and ourselves-- to aim high.

At the same time, we believe in the freelance lifestyle, which means keeping your workload manageable, keeping your expenses down, and finding time for what you love in life.

We're excited to have an opportunity to help freelancers navigating today's tricky economy and hope to hear from other freelancers about what they're doing to succeed. Please keep in touch with us on Twitter (@200KFreelancer).
