- About Killington Vermont
- Like most New England towns, Killington’s history is as old as the history of the United States itself. Initially named Killington because of Killington Mountain, the name of the city was later changed to Sherburne in 1800, in honor of the one of the original grantors of the land. People continued to call it Killington, however, thanks to the popularity of Killington Mountain Resort. This caused so much confusion for skiers searching out Killington that the people voted to revert back to its original name in 1999.
