HO! FOR THE WAR! is a 325-page account (with an additional 50 pages of endnotes, appendices, bibliography and index) of the Civil War regimental history of the Eleventh Illinois Cavalry, raised in Peoria, Illinois in December, 1861 by prominent lawyer and orator Robert Green Ingersoll. The regiment was authorized by Major General John C. Fremont. The book contains 48 photos, illustrations and maps, 16 in color. The book features the extensive use of never-before-published primary source materials. The author has made an effort to highlight the personal stories of the men amidst the descriptions of combat operations. This is the hardcover, dust jacketed deluxe edition. Signed copies will be provided upon request. The 11th Illinois was a component of the Army of Tennessee, commanded by Major General Ulysses S. Grant, and was assigned to Brigadier General Benjamin Prentiss’ Sixth Division during the Battle of Shiloh.
