Multiple Sclerosis : Home Page
Description
The Orland Park MS Self-Help Group was founded in 1984 by Yolanda Treiguts with the cooperation and support of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Chicago-Greater Illinois Chapter. From its very inception, the Orland Park MS Group has been innovative with its emphasis on information and knowledge of Multiple Sclerosis. The Group offers a highly recognized schedule of speakers each year in the areas of medical research, management of MS, coping skills, and all areas that will assist group members in their daily lives. The atmosphere at the group is casual, friendly and non-threatening, allowing group members the maximum flexibility in group participation. Depending upon weather and other factors, group attendance at any given meeting will range from 40 to over 100 group members.
In 1985, Jean Rush, RN, Rush-Presbyterian MS Center, started a group for significant others. We define significant others as spouses, family members, friends and anyone who takes an interest in us, the people who have Multiple Sclerosis. Our significant others' group, led by Jean Rush, meets concurrently with the main group for people with MS. The significant others follow the same format as the MS group: casual, friendly and flexible.
The Multiple Sclerosis Society offers many programs throughout the year which are available to people with MS. Our group is very active in these chapter programs.
