The company was founded in 1974 by the physicist Alfred E. Schiller. Since the beginning of computerised electrocardiology, the R&D department has had a core of experienced top quality engineers, all with extensive knowledge of software and hardware. Members of this department represent SCHILLER in international workgroups at institutions such as the CSE (Common Standard for Quantitative Electrocardiography) and SCP (Standard Communication Protocol), which are setting norm values for the measurement and interpretation of ECGs.
