- We have been told that it is usually something small—a new movie or a high, cloudless morning sky—that brings back the events of September 11, 2001, to the spouses and family members who lost loved ones that day. The fifth anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001 has passed. However, while some families in New York have returned to a sense of normalcy, for other families every day is a day of remembrance. Their lives, and the lives of all the families that the New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund supports, have been changed forever.
