Title

LAIKA

Description

LAIKA, a Portland-based animation studio, is owned by Phil Knight, co-founder and Chairman of Nike. The company was rebranded as LAIKA in 2005, when it absorbed Vinton Studios, an animation leader and innovator for more than 30 years which was especially well-known for its work in the claymation medium.

Laika is divided into Laika Entertainment, which focuses on animated films, and Laika House, which produces animated commercials.

Laika Entertainment's first movie project under its new name was Moongirl, a computer-animated short which was nominated for an Annie Award. Laika was also one of the production companies behind Tim Burton's claymation film, Corpse Bride. Their current projects include Coraline, a fantasy based on a children's book by Neil Gaiman, and Jack and Ben, a movie about two brothers taking a trip across America.

Laika House has worked on ad campaigns for Ben & Jerry's, Coca-Cola, Kellogs, Arby's, Honda, and others.
