Discovery Networks, Inc.*

Description

(1/4/2006) In accorance with the new FTC anti-spam guidelines, we urge our client base to start thinking about making a slight E-mail setting change.

The change reflects a move to control E-mail at the ISP level by changing the TCP port which end users "Submit" outbound E-mail to their ISP to a new port which requires authentication. Thereby leaving a discreet number (~3,000 or so) responsible providers worldwide to use the anonymous "Transport" TCP port. ISPs will monitor and notify rouge activity by their senders, and give advice on how to remedy compromised systems.

The setting change is two fold: Change the SMTP port from the default setting of 25, to 587, and change the SMTP setting to require authentication. (Usually a checkbox.) Both settings are well documented, simple and easy to change.
