Who We AreThe Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI) traces its origin to the Act of Foundation signed March 7, 1975. Its Statutes and Regulations were adopted by a vote of the 45 Charter Members at the organization's first meeting in Ghent, Belgium on April 10, 1976. Active membership is limited to 60 Chairs, each assigned a roman numeral from I to LX. AOI Members are formally nominated and elected by the membership to fill a specific Chair once it becomes vacant.
