- In 1981, a handful of descendants of soldiers of the 26th Regiment North Carolina Troops, embarked upon an effort to create an organization that would perpetuate the history of their ancestors' regiment, and North Carolina's prodigious role in the War Between the States. In November of 1982, the Society for the Historical Preservation of the Twenty-sixth Regiment North Carolina Troops, Inc. was chartered and incorporated by the State of NC.
