One of America's oldest retailers

Sears Holdings Corp. has been a part of the American shopping scene since the late 19th century. The store was originally known as Sears Roebuck & Co., and was one of the first merchants to offer mail-order sales.

Today, Sears Holdings is the fourth-largest retailer in the United States. It has about 3,900 retail stores in the United States and Canada, including both Sears and Kmart stores. Sears bought Kmart Corp. in 2005.

Sears sells clothing, home appliances, tools, garden supplies and electronics, as well as operating auto repair shops within Sears stores. The retailer is also the biggest provider of home appliance services. The company owns several prominent consumer brands, including the Lands' End, Jaclyn Smith and Joe Boxer clothing lines, as well as the appliance and tool brands Kenmore, Craftsman and Diehard.
