About The Virtual Hebrides
The Virtual Hebrides is a not-for-profit web site/organisation and is not funded by or affiliated to any official organisation. The Virtual Hebrides is now the most visited website in/about the Hebrides. Our website incorporates www.scalpay.com which is one of the most popular websites in the Western Isles. Traffic (no. of visitors) is the important factor on the internet. The Virtual Hebrides is a not-for-profit organisation to promote the islands of the Hebrides and it's businesses. One of our expanding industries is tourism so we aim to make this websites' content appealing to visitors while providing all the relevant information for prospective tourists.
At the moment this site caters more for the Outer Hebrides, rather than the Inner Hebrides. This was a concious decision we made when starting this site, simply being that we are based on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. We do hope to include more details on the Inner Hebrides as we develop the site but the primary emphasis will remain the Outer Hebrides.
It is our policy to develop this website to include all areas of The Hebrides, we prefer using this term to The Western Isles as the historic element to the name Outer Hebrides are, to our mind, too important to dismiss. This web site has been designed for ease of use and speed, it follows a format that should be recognised by most people. While not flashy and "fully interactive" we hope that this site acts as a resource / portal for all things that are related to the Outer Hebrides / Western Isles. As such it is intended to continually add more info as and when it becomes available. We therefore readily accept all donations of material for inclusion with pleasure.
