"If You Can Hear My Voice... Your in TOTALLY GOSPEL COUNTRY" were the first words uttered when Pastor John Young went on the air on WHLD-AM 1270 October 13, 1991. The station, operating at 148 watts in the middle of the night, filled the void left when gospel programming was discontinued by a local FM station in Western New York. The 4 1/2 hour brokered program, became the catalyst for the success that Totally Gospel celebrates today.
Totally Gospel was a grassroots effort by a the then 27 year old entrepreneur to bring Urban Inspirational programming to the area. In 1992, 15 additional hours were purchased creating Western New York’s first and only daily night-time gospel program. In 1996, time was brokered on WHTT-AM 1120 (now WBBF-AM), and the Morning Worship Club was born. The successful response of the local community resulted in expansion of the time, and on May 15, 1997, history was made again with the launch of “Heaven 1120” as Western New York’s first full-time gospel station.
Over the years, Totally Gospel has expanded its reach to other stations throughout the region including: WXRL-AM, Lancaster, NY., WWWG-AM, Rochester, NY., WKIQ-AM, Leesburg, FL., and Dominion Sky Angel (on the DISH Satellite Network).
In 2005, a small group of investors joined forces with Pastor Young to form the Excel Radio Networks. Through this venture, Totally Gospel along with its sister Format “Jammin Oldies” began marketing itself to larger corporate media entities. Since the formation of the new company the formats originally aired on KPBQ-FM, Pine Bluff, AR, KZYQ-FM, Lake Village, AR, KOTN-AM, Pine Bluff, AR, KZYP-AM, Pine Bluff, AR., and KCLA-AM, Pine Bluff, AR.
In July 2006, a strategic partnership was formed with Davidson Media Group to launch the first 24 hour Gospel Station in the State of Minnesota... KZTG-AM 1470 Brooklyn Park / Minneapolis. The 5000 watt station serves the Twin Cities
On December 18, 2006, a strategic partnership was formed with Citadel Broadcasting to launch Western New York and Souther Ontario Canada’s first 24 Hour Gospel station on the 5000 watt powerhouse WHLD-AM 1270.
On March 19, 2007, another strategic partnership was formed with Anscombe Broadcasting to bring Totally Gospel to the Winter Haven / Lakeland Florida area on WSIR-AM 1490.
Contrary to what many may perceive, Totally Gospel is more than just a “Black Gospel” music format. We view ourselves and our partnerships as “Inspiration, Educational, and Informational.” We are committed to bring to the forefront, issues that directly impact Urban communities. We are committed to breaking down the barriers of ignorance about the cultures, climate and socioeconomic conditions of these very educated, affluent, and loyal segments of the American population.
