- In the Republic of Uganda, where TAPP beads are made and hope for the future is growing, a staggeringly young population struggles to find ways to make a better life for those who will come after. Landlocked by Kenya, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Rwanda, this East African nation is home to over 24 million people, according to a 2002 census. With 60 percent of the population under the age of 15 and 80 percent under the age of 30, children are raising children and mothers are raising children that aren’t their own.
