Description
I received my degree in Communicative Disorders in 1989. I have taught Pre-k Exceptional Ed., Math, Reading & Science 6-8th grade Educable Mentally Handicapped, Elementary-age Trainable Nonverbal, Emotionally Handicapped & ADHD K-5 and served as an Itinerant Speech Language Pathologist in the school system. Because of my background in speech/language pathology, I began signing with each of my daughters before they could talk. Their most popular signs were "more", "eat", "drink", "all done", and their favorite, "movie". I remember meeting friends for lunch with kids of the same age., while their kids were crying and falling apart, mine were content to sign, because I knew what they wanted.
I started signing with my daughters at 10 months. I am excited to see that many infants are now starting as early as 8 months old. Each of my girls picked up the sign "more" within the first week that it was introduced to them. The word "more" went from snack time, to play time, and then went with them to grandmas shortly thereafter. They loved how it empowered them and thrilled us.
