Title

Rusty Martin - "Texas Blues"

Description

For nearly 30 years, Rusty Martin has had the blues. He picked up his first harmonica at the age of 10 and by the time he was 15 he had taught himself to play guitar and was gigging at coffee houses in and around his hometown of San Antonio, TX. After high school, he hooked up with a touring band and performed extensively throughout many Southwestern states, including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, until he broke off and began his solo career in 1991. His concert appearances have included festivals such as The Blind Lemon Jefferson Festival (Wortham,TX) The Navasota Blues Festival (Navasota, TX), Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival (Conroe, TX), Fiesta San AntonioÕs "King William Fair" and the Guadalajara Music Festival (Guadalajara, Mexico). He has shared billing with John Hammond, Leo Kottke, Delbert McClinton, Marcia Ball, "Steady Rollin'" Bob Margolin, Shemekia Copeland, Joe Ely, and Ruthie Foster. Opening a show for Ray Wylie Hubbard in 1999, Rusty was called back for 3 encores, prompting Hubbard to good-naturedly thank the crowd for "letting me close for Rusty Martin"!

Rusty has an impressive fan base, and not just in terms of numbers. Opening for John Hammond one night in San Antonio, John Hammond himself sat in the audience to watch Rusty's performance, complimented Rusty several times throughout his own show, and then notified his agency that he wanted Rusty to open any time he was in South Texas.

When Bob Margolin met Rusty at Wings in San Antonio, TX and Rusty suggested that Bob and he should record together, "Steady Rollin'" extended his stay without hesitation and joined Rusty in the studio. The song, a Rusty Martin original, will be included on RustyÕs next release which is still in production. Here's what Bob has to say about Rusty:
