Model 5000 Water Cannon Installation

Please read the instructions carefully. All control boxes come with switches for on/off, variable/high speed, light, nozzle, and aux. If your model was ordered with one remote nozzle, your cable includes one side Wire. If your model 5000 was ordered with a second remote nozzle, the nozzle will include a second side wire with it. The nozzle switch and aux. switch are both momentary and are 15 amps. The auxiliary switch can be used for any device rated at 15 amps or lower. All model 5000 are pre-wired at the cannon with one nozzle harness. If you did not order a remote control nozzle, it can be installed at a later time. Determine where cannon will be mounted (bumper or top of tank). Model 5000 is shipped with vertical fully retracted to aid in balance. Model 5000 is shipped without stop bolt installed for 390 plus horizontal rotation suitable for top of tank installation. For bumper mount installation, you must install the stop bolt in one of the threaded holes located beneath the pulley. Find the proper hole for the desired rotation limit and install stop bolt. Rotation of the fill pipe at the base of the cannon can be used to fine tune the limits of travel. You will need to remove the cover to aid in locating the proper stop bolt location. This is done by removing the 2 screws at the back of the cover and the bolt connecting the vertical actuator to the waterway. The inlet for the water cannon is a 2 1/2” grooved fitting and needs to be mounted to a pipe that extends at least 2” above surrounding surfaces for clearance of control cable. Horizontal clearance needed for bumper mount travel from center of pipe should be 13” minimum. Clearance needed for travel at full extension of vertical actuator is 22”. Maintain sufficient slack of control cable beneath cannon to prevent binding at full travel and secure cable to pipe or solid surface with cable tie or clamp. Control box installation in cab requires brackets to be made by installer to fit your application. Box is provided with four 10-24 screws with nuts on back corners. Do not remove nuts tightened against the back of the box. This will provide air space for ventilation. WARNING! Do not block ventilation holes in back of box. Route cable and secure away from any moving parts. Cannon is supplied with 20 feet of cable. In the event of excess cable, loop and tie in a safe location. If your cannon includes the purchase of our remote nozzle, please install it at this time. Simply screw onto cannon outlet. Be sure to use a sealant or Teflon tape. Rotate nozzle until a firm stop is made while aligning the motor and actuator assembly on the side. If after tightening the nozzle, the motor and actuator assembly is not located on the side, you can relocate with any of the other threaded holes. After you install the nozzle, run the connecting wire to the plug located under the cover. Secure the wires from the nozzle around inside of loop with cable ties. Once unit is operational, check for proper rotation and clearance. When testing unit, do not run against stops for an extended period of time. After one week of break in, be sure to check belt tension.

After several hours of break in time, take cover off and observe the belt tension while actuating the cannon. This should be done on a monthly basis or at regular intervals. Belt tension should be set to allow some slippage at stops at high speed. Simply loosen locknut and rotate adjuster, tightening slightly. Adjustment of nut on bottom of horizontal motor may be required. Shaft must remain parallel to fill pipe. Caution! DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN BELT! This adjustment is for horizontal only, no adjustment is needed for the vertical feature. Periodically check the control cable at the bottom of the cannon to insure that enough slack is left for cannon rotation. If needed, readjust cable and anchor with cable tie. We recommend draining the water from the cannon after each use. If foam is used for fire suppression, you must always drain the system after use.

Periodically check the Remote Nozzle for ease of motion. The nozzle may be cleaned or lubricated by removing the bolt that actuates the actuator at the front end. Seals can be ordered from your dealer or direct from Roadrunner.
